In TKV|By Ljiljana Radošević|2 Minutes

This artwork is a part of the series that was inspired by the female characters in Bollywood movies. It was also a period when TKV started changing and upgrading her style and technique and moved from monochrome small-scale stencils to poster size multicolored stencils.

At the beginning of 2006 TKV was part of the project Hope Box that took place in Kontekst Gallery where she got acquainted with some of the local graffiti writers and soon enough she became a part of MoFoS graffiti crew. During that period of time she switched her focus from popular culture to the research of Hindi culture, and as a part of a graffiti crew she was faced by a different approach of art creation process and she started incorporating in her work more colors and bigger dimensions.

As a result of her research of Hindi culture she was fascinated by some of the legends and deities, as well as with the elaborate decorations that came along with it. During that period we could see on the streets of Belgrade representations of Vishnu, Ganesha or All-seeing eye, but maybe the most memorable were artworks from the Bollywood Superstar series.

In this photo we can see a typical representation of an Indian woman from Bollywood movies. As TKV was still adjusting to the new technique we can see that she did not start using multicolored stencils but was rather painting a multicolored background and spraying a black stencil over it. This fascination by the uninhibited emotional displays, excessive decoration and traditional dances very strongly influenced her even after she stopped using motives from Hindi culture. It was about the same time that she started focusing exclusively on the female portrait and self-portrait that became up to this date her recognizable feature.
