Aer is one of the pieces by the artist that now we know as Lortek. This piece was situated in one of the favorite spots of graffiti writers from Belgrade at the turn of the century. In this underground passage around the same time we could see the best displays of the skill and ideas that local artists had to offer.

Since 1997 graffiti writer, whom now we know under the name, Lortek was very actively participating in the local graffiti scene. From the very beginning he was most dedicated to the development of technique and different ideas.

These ideas resulted in different experiments when it comes to style and up to year 2000 when this piece was made he already had many different tags and his styles were ranging from bubble letters to wild style, and with every experiment his style was purified and brought to a different level.

Before he started tagging Aerosol or abbreviated Aer, he was using tags like Leo and Thc. Leo was his first tag and the simplicity of the letter structure allowed him to undertake unprecedented bombing in the city centre. It was almost impossible to find a dust bin, bench, electricity box, public lighting or any other piece of public furniture that was not tagged by him. This marked him as a serious player on the local scene and the name be reckoned with. At the time he was member of the crew whose members were from the city centre and accordingly they named it CO2 – Circle of 2 (it refers to the tramway no.2, which rout is circular and it goes around the historical part of the city it has the same significance like the tramway no.28 in Lisbon).

On this photograph we can see that he was experimenting with the angular letters but the spraycan that was added to this piece has very liquid and curved lines. It shows the simplicity but also the possibility of being able to effortlessly use different stylistic approaches in his art. It is also important to mention that throughout the year 2000 he had to adjust his technique because he hurt his index finger and could not use it for spray painting, so instead he used his thumb and that significantly changed his understanding of technical possibilities and understanding of stylistic development.
