In Quam|By Ljiljana Radošević|1 Minutes

Very early on in his career Quam realized that he would rather do characters than letters. While doing graffiti for years he mastered the can control and found himself lacking in inspiration when it comes to letter. However, this opened up a whole new world of characters when he already knew how to reach perfection in technique.

At the time, he was also a part of informal studio at the biggest squat in Belgrade, Inex, where he had a benefit of socializing with a crew of graffiti writers and street artists who were already art students. So hes stylistic standards reached very high level very early on. As it is obvious in this piece, in which we can obviously see transition from graffiti culture to street art, he was using spray can technique while discovering his unique style. The lines are are sharp and precise and yet they are being “let loose”. The colors are well matched and we can still see the need to shade the transitions as one would in graffiti culture. His art works from this period show very obvious transition to the next level of functioning.
