In Endo|By Ljiljana Radošević|2 Minutes

Endo’s artwork is at the moment in particular phase where the artist uses a self portrait as a prism for illustrating people and society that surround him. These are not classical self portraits that show subtle emotions and character through the realistic form, these are Baconian (Francis Bacon) portraits that let emotions deform the reality to suit the emotional truth.

While walking the streets, or talking to his friends or family, or just the random passers by, Endo soaks in their feelings, thoughts and frustrations which he transmutes by putting them into his art pieces. So each self portrait is an illustration of a particular encounter. And while we are looking at him we are actually looking at the micro world around him. Mingled and misshapen hands or bodies, combined with the angry or exhausted heads accompanied by the blotches of color that represent feelings, paint the story of his immediate surroundings. Heads are processing the collective feeling of the people he communicates with and other parts of the body are in the form of drawing. In this colorful mess, the bodies or hands or cigarettes are just a thin white line. Unsubstantial. Color also plays an important role in his compositions because they express feelings which people around him are not capable of expressing. And so, dark purple, blues and greens in a way represent emotional bruises of our society. Most of the time these are disruptive, strong feelings that affect people on a very deep level but sometimes we find calm and peaceful blue shades that have almost meditative character.
